Pop Up Youth Radio

PUYR hopes to help youth and youth advocates amplify their voices through DIY radio.

PUYR is a site-specific humanities radio show produced and hosted by youth from partner organizations. PUYR began as a project during the summer of 2015 with Free Spirit Media as partner. Yollocalli Arts Reach & Free Spirit Media co-developed a framework based on our experience creating DIY radio with youth from our media programs. During summer 2015 youth broadcast live from community events, including Villapalooza. During late Spring & Summer 2016 we will be turing the framework created in 2015 into a Toolkit. This second phase of PUYR project will produce a Toolkit to help organizations, educators and young people create their own pop-up radio shows. As well as continue to produce live-radio shows during the summer in collaboration with youth from Truestar Foundation and broadcast on WLPN 105.5fm Chicago(currently streaming on-line.)
