National Civic Beat

As an expansion of the Political Pulse, Real Chi Youth and Elections in Action participants will use findings from the summer to begin the National Civic Beat, a reporting outlet that looks at the elections and examines the multifaceted ways in which youth become civically activated. National Civic Beat will begin in fall of 2015 and run throughout spring 2016 just after the primary elections.

In the fall, youth participants served in the summer will grow in size; Real Chi Youth and Elections In Action will be supported by FSM News South and West to use youth pulse data collected over the summer to produce segments related to the primary elections and civic engagement among young people in general. News coverage will also include trips to key primary states by Real Chi Youth and Elections In Action team.

Segments produced during the program may include current events, issue overviews, candidate bios, and editorial segments with youth opinions. The segments will be marketed to youth and national peer organizations using the Real Chi Youth blog, Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr account. Segments would also be marketed to Hive Chicago, Hive National, and Mikva Challenge’s curriculum partners to use in the classroom.
