Since January 1, 2018, stewardship of Hive Chicago has transitioned from Mozilla to a new local non-profit, the Chicago Learning Exchange (CLX). Please visit us at chicagolx/joinus to learn how you and your organization can join our growing community. The Hive is still the Hive.

During the meetup anyone can have 60 seconds to announce an event, program or opportunity available to others and then 10-15 minutes to lead small discussion/breakout groups to share more details and information about your update with curious attendees. If you are interested, you’ll need to let us know in advance. Please submit your information via the online form by end of the day, on the Tuesday EOB August 15, 2017.

Moonshots Working Groups: lead discussion and project groups

Have a project? Want to lead a discussion? In advance of the Meetup: let us know!

Moonshot discussion groups: You or a representative can volunteer to lead a discussion about a project idea that connects to a Moonshot; either how it serves to demonstrate challenges related to the area, or how it demonstrates a solution to those challenges. Discussion groups allow you to invite input from other Hivers.

Moonshot project groups: in this area of activity, you would present the project and pieces of work or tasks that others can help with. This might be drafting, designing, communicating, reviewing, etc. The goal would be to help others contribute to the work. In this format you can facilitate an engaging share-out of your project while also getting something done! Ideally, this is work that could be brought back to meetups monthly.

July Un-Meetup Recap

Our July Un-Meetup was amazing!  Attendees got some needed time to continue work on moonshot working groups, hear about MozFest opportunities, and find out more information about opportunities.   Couldn’t make it to the Meetup?  No worries!  Check out what you missed below.

MozFest- October 27-29, 2017

Community Manager, Kenyatta Forbes, hosted a MozFest informational/proposal workshop! MozFest is a diverse, highly interactive event with something for everyone. The festival kicks off Friday evening with a science fair, where attendees can stroll around and check out presentations on inspiring ideas and projects, many of which were developed at previous MozFests. Saturday and Sunday are filled with participant-led sessions that generally run between 30 to 90 minutes. You’ll find interactive spaces where participants can learn something new or engage in some hands-on making or experimentation; small group breakout discussions where bright minds debate the most pressing issues facing the Internet today; and ongoing, informative displays where attendees can explore ideas at their own speed.

Sessions are organized into spaces —

  • Youth Zone
  • Digital Inclusion
  • Web Literacy
  • Decentralization
  • Privacy and Security
  • Open Innovation

Proposal submissions were due August 1st!  Did you submit a proposal?  Was it selected?  Stay tuned for more information and travel stipend opportunities.
